Lots of hate for the New-New top gear, but lets throw back to the last time Top Gear was new, and the awkward is all still there. The only thing New Top Gear has over New-New Top Gear is that it was ALL new, not a redo of a proven concept.

I guess I’m saying, I’m open to giving New-New Top Gear a chance.
Worth a watch, just for a dose of nostalgia

But, as soon as James May came along, they hit their stride. Series 2 is probably one of my favourites, probably just behind 12 and 10.

James’ introduction of his absurd hobbiest daily drive was an epic first film for him on New Top Gear

If Chris Evans would stop trying so hard and yelling at me, he would be tolerable

Flip or Flop, I am always turned off by this woman as I always feel like she is yelling. It’s not a volume thing, it’s a tone issue.

I wouldn’t gloss over the fact that New-New-TG is a re-do of New-TG too much. In fact, I think that is its biggest downfall. By keeping the format they’re only ever going to live in the shadow of those who perfected it. They’ve set themselves up to fall short of the bar. Chris Evans can’t be Clarkson, he has no hope of that, and if they keep up with that direction I struggle to have hope for the show.

ahh! but first episode of New-TG was really just a slightly revised version of Old-TG. Awful lot of car review and practical advice type content. Didn’t get fully nutso until much later on.

I’d say slightly after James’ arrival. In the first few he was in, they were still getting the chemistry flowing.

I love the way people are overreacting with the whole “I’m never watching another episode”. I’m just like why? Top Gear isn’t some great moral conundrum of our time.
If you watched Top Gear only for the 3 stooges, then you have no real reason to watch the new one and even then give it a try, if the first series is a bust, move on, it’s only a show and I’m sure there are other things to watch. Heck I heard Amazon has some interesting things in the works.

It’s true that New-TG had similarities to Old-TG in its consumerist (if that’s he right word) style but I would argue it was still much more of a change from the old than New-New-TG is from its predecessor.

The last Top Gear didn’t have any competition, so they had time to try and sort everything out.
This new one will , though. And it’s from the people who perfected what NNTG is trying to get sorted out. The real problem for NNTG is that the world won’t have to wait for them to get everything sorted. I’d watch both NNTG and TGT if they were both good. If only one of them is though...

a valid point, they have a REALLY short time to turn NewNew top gear into a success. I think there only saving grace might be that people will watch TV by accident “oh look, Newnew Top Gear is on”, but have to put effort into watching the Amazon show.

I can see that. there were certainly ties back to the original TG, but it was quite the sea change. Dramatic enough I’m sure it enraged some folks at the time :D

The Berlingo segment was brilliant.

Fifth Gear is probably more of a slightly revised version of Old Top Gear (The ‘77 format).

Haha, it probably did.
‘Bring back Tiff! This Richard Hammond character is terrible! What’s with the studio segments?!?’
Wait, this is starting to sound familiar...
